The construction of a new four dish satellite teleport located at the top of Douglas Head in the Isle of Man. The teleport would be used, in the first instance, to track and control satellites in space. Eventually, it could be used to provide international connectivity by hosting broadcast, telecommunications and media services. The teleport was completed and put into service in the autumn of 2018. The official opening was performed by the Rt Hon Laurence Skelly MHK, Minister of The Department for Enterprise. 

Construction of the Teleport would take place on top of a hill in an area zoned off for broadcasting and telecommunications purposes.  The site, at the summit of Carnane Hill, is a lowland heath habitat with small amounts of acid grassland, bracken and European gorse. Beneath the heath and gorse was solid bedrock which would need excavating in order to construct the site in it's entirety. This would require extensive groundworks to excavate the foundations for the three buildings as well as the four dish bases. Additionally, 2km worth of trenching, across fields owned by three separate landowners, would be required for power and fibre connectivity to the new site. The existing Manx Utility substation, supplying power to the buildings in the local vicinity, would be replaced by a larger 500KVA unit along with associated cabling. This would require an 8-hour power outage. The project would commence in the month of February when weather conditions at the summit would pose significant problems..

The project was delivered on time and to budget. The main obstacles faced, due to practical constraints whilst working on an island, were overcome using effective project management and controls. The key principles and techniques employed were composing and agreeing the original budget, careful supplier and vendor selection, continued review of finances and business justification, good stakeholder and risk management and a strong focus on the products to be delivered. This was the first Teleport construction project undertaken in the Isle of Man and will significantly boost the islands broadcast and media profiles .
